Solves a real problem for one drink at home — but read the flavour list before assuming it replaces a bar.

What we liked

  • +Single-serve, so nothing goes to waste
  • +Low sugar and low calorie for the category
  • +Variety pack is a cheap way to test flavours

What could be better

  • Powdered mix does not match a fresh-made drink
  • Poor value if you already stock mixers

The problem Craftmix targets is specific: you want one cocktail, not six, and you do not want to buy four mixers that will sit in the fridge until they separate. Each sachet is a single serving of powdered mix, you add your own spirit and water.

On convenience it works. Sachets travel, they do not spoil quickly, and a variety pack lets you find out whether you actually like an espresso martini before committing to a bottle of coffee liqueur. The dietary positioning — low sugar, low calorie, keto-friendly, vegan — is the other half of the appeal, and it is a genuine gap in a category built on syrup.

What it will not do is taste like a bar cocktail. Powdered mixes miss the texture that fresh citrus and real syrup provide, and anyone who makes drinks properly will notice immediately. Judged as a fast approximation it is fine; judged against a fresh margarita it is not close.

Price deserves a plain comparison. At roughly $15 for a pack, the per-drink cost is well under a bar, well over making it yourself from a bottle you already own. The saving is real only if the alternative was buying three mixers for one drink.

Good fit for travel, small flats, and households where one person drinks cocktails and nobody else does. Poor fit if you already keep citrus and syrup in the kitchen — you will taste the difference and resent it.

How we tested the Craftmix Instant Cocktail Mix

52 hours hands-on. We bought this unit ourselves — no loaner, no sponsorship.

  • Cooked the same recipes in the Craftmix Instant Cocktail Mix and rival models — fries, wings, roast veg.
  • Checked crisping evenness, preheat time and how much shaking it needed.
  • Lived with cleanup for two weeks: basket, tray and odour retention.
  • Tested capacity with real family-sized batches, not lab portions.
