- –Over-application burns grass quickly
The Andersons makes professional-grade lawn and garden products, US-made, from about $10 to $93. This is the range lawn care companies buy, sold direct.
The value case is strong and simple. Consumer lawn products are formulated to be hard to misuse, which means diluted, and priced for brand rather than content. Professional-grade product delivers more active ingredient per dollar. If you are treating any meaningful area, the difference over a season is substantial.
The catch is that professional product assumes professional knowledge. Consumer bags say "apply in spring"; professional bags give you an N-P-K ratio and a rate per thousand square feet, and expect you to know your lawn's area and what it needs. Applying too much nitrogen burns a lawn brown in a week, and that is a real and common mistake — the packaging will not stop you.
Two things make the difference between saving money and killing grass. Get a soil test before buying anything, because feeding a lawn that needs lime is wasted money. And measure your lawn properly, because application rates are per area and estimating by eye is how people end up applying double.
The granule technology the brand emphasises is a genuine advantage: even particle size means even spread, and uneven spread is what produces the striped lawns you see after a bad application.
Excellent value if you will do the small amount of homework. Buy a consumer brand instead if you want to spread something and not think about it — you will pay more and get less, but you are less likely to damage the lawn.
